# What is the difference between prospection and onboarding?

Prospection and onboarding are terms that are frequently used in the partner lifecycle. We’ll discuss the differences that exist between the two.

## Differences between Prospection and Onboarding

Prospection refers to when you’re looking for new Partners. Prospection can be done using your network, LinkedIn, Google searches, etc. During this process, you are working on finding and converting a potential partner into a formalized partnership.

For example, during prospection, you can search for new partners similar to existing ones in other regions.

Onboarding refers to the process that comes right after the prospection. It’s not only signing up new partners but also ensuring that you build a positive, long-term partnership.

For example, during onboarding, you can train partners to strengthen the partnership.
