# What's the difference between Partner Types and Partner Programs?

Partner Types and Partner Programs are all terms you will stumble upon, and we’ll explain the differences between the two.

## Differences between Partner Types and Partner Programs

Partner programs categorize your partners using tiers or levels established with different benefits, requirements, and rewards.

Partners Types allow you to categorize your partners with more granularity than Partner Programs.

For example, you could have a Referral Partner Program which includes the following partner types:

* Consultancy company
* Agency
* Agent

If you don't need to categorize the types of partners within a program, ignore them.
